The Doors - Jim MorrisonORIGINAL Guy Webster Signed Photo Print - signed by Guy Webster, who died in 2019
Guy Webster was one of the early innovators of rock ‘n’ roll photography. His fifty-year career spanned the worlds not only of music but film and politics. While shooting album covers and magazine layouts for numerous groups –
The Rolling Stones
,
The Mamas and the Papas
,
The BeachBoys
,
The Byrds
,
The Doors
,
Simon & Garfunkel
among many others
I purchased this from Guy Webster in 2011 and I professionally custom framed it myself utilizing acid free matting materials and conservation UV protective museum glass. Outer mat is a hand-wrapped suede type material and the frame, as can be seen in the photos, has a snake or lizard patterned texture to it. There is a thick inner white mat that creates a recessed dimensional look. The photo print itself is secured in with acid free corner-pockets. The museum glass is clear so you can easily see the photo, but has a special coasting that cuts the reflection and at some angles appears to not have any glass on it at all.
Since Guy Webster has passed, his photos are sold now with an "estate stamp". I contacted Guy Webster's daughter Merry to ask about the value of this signed photo, here was her reply:
"It's very hard to give a consistent/clear price for your beautiful print because it's a rarity now that my father is no longer with us, and really comes down to whatever a buyer is willing to pay for it. We now typically sell estate stamp 11x14 prints for 0 (only upon request, not offered on the site currently), but as yours is signed and a print of one of his most iconic images, I would price it anywhere between 00-00".
Based on Merry's estimate, I am asking what I feel is a fair price of ,500 for this iconic Doors' image, beautifully custom conservation framed. The cost of having this custom framed as it is designed here using conservation materials and the museum glass would easily run around 0 - 0.
