Description

1793 Flowing Hair Wreath Cent.
Sheldon 5. ***This die variety (S-5) was the first wreath cent struck after the last of the Chain Cents*** The S-5 was struck in the 1st week of April 1793 and is similar to the chain cents in that it has large letters in LIBERTY and large numbers for the date. Nice detail especially on the reverse which shows a complete clear wreath, ONE CENT and most of the reverse legend. Obverse shows complete LIBERTY. The "damage" noted by PCGS may be planchet defects when struck at the mint.
